Hi pal, Your mates daughter just needs a good basic fitness level. If she can get to the gym a couple of times a week and work on her anaerobic fitness for say 6 weeks or get out and do a bit of jogging then she will be fine.
If you need any more help just drop me a line.

Hello - best thing for basic fitness is to make sure you do walk at least one hour per day - ie walk every where as much as you can. Then to get a reasonable fitness level for the peaks you will need to do a minimum of three one hour sessions in the gym per week. Any thing less and her daughter may struggle a bit and not enjoy the experience and the fantastic views - don't forget walking boots to ankle height and don't borrow them - also worn in seamless socks.........hope that helps.
If can't get to the gym - walking up and down the stairs at a multi-storey car park for an hour is great training.

Encourage her to join us on the Cumbrian Way,if only part of it, as most of it is on the level, for me, it is better training than what an hour in the gym can do.........

I agree with MMM, can't beat getting out there - far better than the Gym.
