Molehills in a straight line are evidence of a main runway between food foraging grounds which are signified by the molehills in random patterns. Molehills will be present when the weather is milder, hence the ground is warmer, and the earthworms, which are the moles main foodsource, are nearer the surface hence the moles are active near the surface to eat them, because if a mole doesn't eat every few hours it dies. A mole will eat approx half of it's 120gram bodyweight a day. A molehill larger than surrounding ones is evidence of a nest site.
