shoe/ boots Spike grips
by trekkieHi I hear that LIDL are selling devices which you stretch under your boots and claim to offer additional grip on icey surfaces.
havent used them myself so dont know how effective they are.
Anybody had any experience of them and would you recommend them?

Hi Trekkie,i have no experience of these, but agree with Minty`s concerns.I would recommend khatoola micro spikes, that are fit for purpose, but around £50.What price do you put on broken limbs or Mountain rescue call out<img src='theme/emoticon_smile.png' />
lalandranger68I too recommend the above ..Khatoola (made in America ) used them for three years now in the fells ....there the business for `walking ` in ice bound sreas on slopes , tricky stuff(talking in the hills here , not just getting around to Asda). You can put them in a small bag in your rucksack , pull em out , pull over your boots (they have proper spike and chain links , like crampons , I call them crampets ! ) Were £40 when I bought them , I`ve been out in some proper snow and ice bound fell walks with them ....brill.
StSteeevi had some that stretched across your shoes which worke dreally well on solid ice. if you get snow or slush they tend to get pulled off. i have just bought some more but with an extra strap across the top of the shoe. I have only used them for walking the dog in town so i cant really comment about rough and changeable terrain
