Lost in the dark???
by Ally & DaveWas meeting a friend at Hardwick Hall Inn.Very difficult pub to find.Ended up getting very lost on a dirt track in the middle of nowhere in the pitch black..No mobile reception.Ended up flagging down 8 random mountain bike blokes who just happened to be passing!!!One jumped in passenger seat, stuck.his bike in back and helped me find it.....bizarre experience.Luckily am still alive...he was very nice but my mum said that about Harold Shipman!!!
Anyone else any bizarre tales about getting lost?

I went to the Rugby League cup final & met a mate outside who had gone down with his college, they were all at a pub nearby but he had to ask two policemen the way before we found the pub which was only five mins away! ps know Hardwick Hall area well & my niece used to work at the pub.
on 08/02/13 @ 19:23The Leeds one way system is a nightmare too, going round & round trying to find the car park for the Marriott Hotel! Using orange maps on my phone just helped us find the hotel.
BJBlue Johndid you slide on your roll top wellies to gather an arm full of wood?
lalandranger68Love that tale Hamish bunny!!!
ADAlly & DaveThe big question is whether they escaped the mad woman's clutches the next day!! Great tale Mrs McBun
on 09/02/13 @ 16:52Oooooh, the other side of the sweet McBunnie cottage in the wild welsh borders.
on 09/02/13 @ 17:18Yes, got a shovel in the car and was going to keep it there until I get back from the Brecons. If I do get back that is.......you're going, aren't you?
on 09/02/13 @ 17:42Well then I'll look forward to seeing you again on Friday Mrs McBun and I'll have to watch my back. Do you have an ice axe on your sledge?
Perhaps bizarrely I quite enjoy the feeling of being lost although it's never happened to me deliberately and it doesn't happen very often. But there's one place where I always get lost every time I go there - Hutton Roof Crags near Burton-in-Kendal. It's a very jagged limestone pavement with a lot of impenetrable vegetation and the paths in the clints and grykes are like a giant maze. Try it and you'll see what I mean. (My IPad thinks clints and grykes ought to be clients and Greeks)
JuJulianYes Whitbarrow Scar caught me out also a few years ago, came down 3 hous later with head tourch
lalandranger68Also did a mountain bike ride a couple of years ago with a friend on Howden moor. The man at the YH sent us completely the wrong way, ended up carrying the bikes literally up a bloody series of cliffs....took about 10 hrs....never been so tired. Good memories!!
ADAlly & DaveI missed a sign on the Teesdale Way & entered a wood which got increasingly dense as the cliffs on one side & the river the other squeezed me in & the terrain got more difficult. The poles sticking out of my bag must have got snagged on branches as I struggled through climbing over rocks & fallen trees. As I finally made it out of the woods my poles were missing & there was no way I was going back in there without an axe for revenge one day!
BJBlue JohnGetting lost in the dark - on my list of things to do, bring it on ha!!!
LMLittle Miss Sunshine (Max)I grew up with electric fences, always be careful how you stride over them,my grandad used to grab our hand & then the fence so it just passed through him & we got a shock
BJBlue JohnLeaving Wasdale late one Feb afternoon, already dark and just wanted to get to the motorway. Typed in Kendal and made the mistake of ok'ing 'shortest route' on the Sat Nav. The Hardknot pass, on my own, in the dark, road covered in icy patches and an estate car that refused to go around the hairpins in one go wasn't my idea of a relaxing end to the day. Reversing towards blackness to try and negotiate the bends isn't something I want to repeat
BGBustaGut (Grant)I'm surprised some of you blokes haven't ended up in the wardrobe after a nighttime expedition.
MMMadMagA mate of mine ended up lost trying to find the toilets at the Cockermouth YHA (an old water mill, pitch Black inside) in the end he desperately opened a window and p....d out onto the Water Wheel!!
jwjw19Would that be to get away from snoring women Mag?....It isn't just blokes either, I know of women who've turned the wardrobe into a birdbath after a long night on the lash.....I'm sure all us blokes are a lot more refined than that
BGBustaGut (Grant)No, it's cos they're searching for the blow up doll ha ha. (or the repair kit).
MMMadMagI'm keeping very quiet on this topic !!
dadavemWalkey talkey....you could adapt that to walking & tell the kids its much more fun exploring!
BJBlue JohnGood thread u started here Ally. Well 2 stories to share. Dropped my wife off at a friends on Canvey Island in Essex, got lost and cldn't get off the Island! ADAlly & DaveGetting lost every time I go out. Barmouth walk, Roman Rd, Yorkshire Moors, bike riding, Dovestones (every time I go there). In fact I get lost leaving my front door. Needless to say everyone who knows me will one day stop listening to me when I say it's this way.
UJUltreia (Jo & Alan)Did we ever find the Northern Quarter Jo or was it just a random pup crawl?
JWJWWhen I was small I lost my mum in Boots shop on Christmas Eve because it was so crowded & I couldnt see over the people!
BJBlue JohnI think you mean you couldn't see over the apothecary jars, in those days there weren't that many people
MMMadMagIt was packed on that day & it was a small shop!
