Please check the invites frequently for updates
by Flat cap (Mike)As everybody who ever was active here will know, this website is not the most user friendly to put it mildly.
Once again it seems that the email alerts aren't working properly. So please keep in mind that if you put your name down for an invite, check it frequently if there has been updates and changes.
As for my invite for Sunday 11th Dec, I just spent quite some time chasing people via txt and fb messenger and Whatsapp because they obviously didn't realise there had been updates.
Perhaps we should ask Steve the site administrator to pay us £5 each for using this awkward website rather than us having to paying him for our work.
Having said this, it is still a good way of meeting like-minded people, and I am looking forward to seeing many of you again on the two Xmas walks. Keep the spirit.

👍👍 🍺
PhPhiltheetilerHi Mike,
Having organised a meeting I can understand your frustration when the site doesn't work, however we are only paying £5 per month when most dating websites are over £20 per month.
The forum and Invitations facility are pretty unique to OD. Also, fake entries are common on other sites, none on OD.
Go onto Trust Pilot and see the comments for "Our Time" and "Fitness Singles" the comments speak for themselves.
Anytime I've had a problem with the site I've contacted Steve and he's sorted it quickly.
I think we get great value and facilities for our £5 per month, especially when some members are under financial pressure.
JohnH. I fully agree with you 👍🙂
BPBea (Pebbles)Thanks Bea, if Steve has to employ one or two programmers to improve the site quicker then the monthly cost has to go up. Programmers are not cheap!!! One of my sons is a programmer and he earns a lot of money!
I've been following your forum and I know that the cost of living crisis is affecting many members who we would not like to lose, so we need to keep the costs down.
@Bea, John: thanks for your interesting contributions, although this thread is not about loyalty, gratitude, patience and their personal thresholds, nor about experiences with dating websites.
FcFlat cap (Mike)My thread is about the fact that two things would make work much easier for members to organise invites:
a) a properly working website (which has been done again finally, thanks)
b) a minimum level of effort from the members that put their name down - they should at least check the invite occasionally if any action is required and then actually do so. - This obviously doesn't apply to my current invite (I'm still waiting for the response from two members) but hopefully to future ones.
Flat cap Mike....I do " get it" 👍🙂
BPBea (Pebbles)Flat Cap,
on 01/12/22 @ 17:39I'd agree with you if you hadn't included the following in your intro to the forum:
"As everybody who ever was active here will know, this website is not the most user friendly to put it mildly."
"Once again it seems that the email alerts aren't working properly."
"Perhaps we should ask Steve the site administrator to pay us £5 each for using this awkward website rather than us having to paying him for our work."
Especially your last comment is simply out of order.
And here's an offer to make this forum a bit more festive.
Mike, if you can find a site that offers more features for outdoor people at a better price than OD then after the walk on the Sunday I'll buy you a couple of drinks!!!
Flat cap (Mike): Thanks for the heads up on the issue with Invite change emails. 👍 As I don't express interest in Invites its a feature I hadn't noticed wasn't working. The 5pm summaries of new events is working, but the issue affected people who's preferences are set to immediately inform them of changes. I have been squirreling 🐿 around the code and found an issue and hopefully fixed it. 😎 Though if you have issues tell me.
During my fiddling I sent a blank email to some people ☹ - just ignore.
@Steve: I noticed that the alerts were coming through again, thanks once more for your support.
FcFlat cap (Mike)@John: just stop this nonsense. The forum is not the place to pursue a personal feud. Hijacking somebody else's thread for your own agenda is not good practice either.
Mike,
I am not pursuing a personal feud, I was only trying to protect what a good site OD is, that's all.
And as per my previous comment I was only trying to lighten it up with a bit of humour, I'm sorry if you took that the wrong way.
