Land of Dracula
by Lazlo WoodbineNo not Whitby. Thinking about a walking holiday in the Carpathian mountains. I can get a cheap Wizzair flight to Cluj for as low as £15 return but summer prices are more likely to be £70. Hotels are dirt cheap and beer less than a £1 a pint. The mountains are exceptionally scenic, the woods have wolves and bears, there are lots of medieval castles.
Has anyone on here been there? Are the paths well marked? Are their guide books? Would I need a guide.

Would you recommend it then David?
LWLazlo WoodbineNo idea. It seemed nice in 1970, but we were just passing through.
WOWalking OnI haven't read the guide above, but if I was thinking of going then I would.
Be wary, I hear some of the locals can be a real pain in the neck (sorry, couldn't resist).
But they like the night life.
LWLazlo WoodbineThey'd be batty not to!
Football manager Nigel Pearson claims to have had to fight off a wolf attack whilst on a walking holiday. The trick is to stand with your back to a tree so they can"t get behind you.Might I recommend you wear a spiked collar just in case Doug?
dedennisgrantI"m sure you will be fine. What size boots do you wear?
There's a lot at stake here. It may be worth revamping your plans and hiring a car (a Batmobile perhaps) in case you have to escape, but drive carefully or you might still need a

Had I thought that this thread would generate some of the most awful puns ever known I wouldn't have bothered asking.
LWLazlo WoodbineYou should have known things would come back to haunt you, there's a sucker born every minute. Fangs again for the post.😊

I do hope that the consequences of your choice of holiday location are not too draconian.
In the same vein, you probably won't want to go there again - once bitten, twice shy.
M1M1960You can count on the usual suspects to sink their teeth into this one.
Some of the puns are bloody awful - far too cryptic.
M1M1960Sweet angel of death, please take me now.
LWLazlo WoodbineCan't you cope with anymore punishment?
M1M1960Lazlo, surely you mean 'Oh Sting where is thy death'?
Do you have any horror stories to recount, Lazlo?

Lazlo Woodbine: Any reflections yet Doug ?
PhPhiltheetilerYes Phil. Wizzair no longer flying out of Doncaster so I won't be going now.
LWLazlo WoodbineFangs for this post Doug x
CDCarpe Diem!Carpe Diem!: Yes, it's fangtastic.
M1M1960I see this post is back from the dead, resurrected almost. Still a lot of people coffin over there. (I'll show myself out, be nice to each other and don't forget to tip your waitress)
Perhaps something has spooked Wizzair. I'm haunted by the spectre of poor Lazlo not getting his holiday – it's frightfully sad.
M1M1960All these awful puns are giving me heartburn, or it may have been the stake.
LWLazlo WoodbineThat's bloody rare.
M1M1960Still, gotta B+ eh?
News just in: one night during the recent cold snap, scientists managed to cross a snowman with a vampire, but are now suffering from frostbite.
M1M1960Did you hear about the asthmatic vampire? He was known as Vlad the Inhaler.
