Sorry lesley. Didn't notice your post.🤔
DeDekaBeen a very enjoyable weekend in Glossop. Hopefully back over this way before too long
TBThe Beer PoliceThanks to everyone for coming. Was good seeing you all. Hope the effort was worth it. Will put the walk on again towards summer for those who couldn't make it when at least the rain will be warmer.
PKPeteKThanks Pete and Yvonne, brilliant walk and a good hard day to remind me I'm alive ... just.
MPManPlusDogAlthough I've spent most of my time up to my knees or occasionally higher in the snow on my backside, front side, upside down and often like a tortoise on my back unable to rollback over, I really have enjoyed it and laughed all day despite the under the breath swearing.
Lovely to meet so many people who confirm , we all do have a screw loose somewhere deep within our heads. Look forward to the next one.
Pete and Yvonne, that was an extraordinary walk. As you may have noticed (ahem!), I was well out of my comfort zone at times, so thanks to all the group for support and encouragement. I will definitely sign up for the summer version - I'm sure it will seem very different then.
SuSunnyPete, Yvonne thanks for shepherding such a straggling flock on great walk today.
R1R1chardFine views, testing conditions and a sobering
pause for thought when I discovered that the B29
crash had taken place in the other half of the
other century, five days before I was born!
Last night I had a dream. In it was Bear Grylls (Peter K ) and `Heav On `, in her S.S . outfit .I was in a chain gang that struggled slowly up a snowy mountain . `Heav On ` must have lost something in this vast area on a previous visit . She took us over to one area , then another, then back again ,randomly searching through this snow sucking, leg sapping , up and down terrain .
on 18/01/16 @ 9:32Three Stones, The Wainstones , gall stones, snow ,snow and more snow. Just before the sun went down , we were allowed to consume our rations, in a large `snow bunker`. At this point, `Bear` stated `that the best way to ward off leg cramp , was to drink your own urine `.!
I am now recovering in the Intensive Care Unit. The medical team have put a screen next to my bed , that operates a slide show . Images of sundrenched beaches, blue skies, cold beers by the pool, scantily dressed women (don't know how that got in ) deserts, dust etc , this should apparently dispel the trauma images ( from the expedition ) that I am plagued with, and I should recover by Friday, all being well .
StSteeevApparently I thought that I was in the new TV programme ` SURVIVAL AND ENDURANCE`, with the stars Bear Grylls and Heav On. All I can say is,` I`m glad that I survived` and PETER plus YVONNE were the real stars yesterday !!! Hope to meet the other survivors in a future episode.
Clearly mountain sickness has well and truly kicked in.
MPManPlusDogSteeev: brilliant!!! 😀😀😀
CDCarpe Diem!Hard to follow Steeev's comments but just to say it really was a day that dreams are made of...!
HiHappiest in the hillsThanks again to Pete and Yvonne for successfully leading us on an almost 'trail free' route and getting us down just in time to be able to see where the pub was!
Ah ha! I have finally found my way to the forum! Didn't realise this was here. Another thank you to Pete and Yvonne for a fabulous walk yesterday. My type of walk! 🙂 Loved it! Great meeting you all too and looking forward to the next one.
JaJanie1Actually to help in warding off cramp, apparently is drinking tonic water which contains quinine
StSteeevIt seems to work for me when I pile the water down before a big walk in the lakes. However some brands don't have the said ingredient in. SCHWEPPES does . Also plenty of salty stuff to replace the stuff that has been used/ sweated out
Steeev: Don't tell me you broke into a sweat on an easy walk like that 😉
Leslie, It seems as Stephen J says.. All the ' men ' got in a tizz...and the women just took it in their stride...No the only sweat I got in was when I had to buy me own beer in the pub!! Tell you what I can still feel it in my little leggies today!
StSteeevThanks to Pete and Yvonne for a great walk today. Nice to meet lots of new people who share this strange sadistic passion of trudging through 9.5 miles of snow (or rain last time...) to get a pint! %uD83D%uDE1C Wouldn't it be easier to just eat sandwiches in the car instead of the snow bunker and go straight to the pub...? Of course, that's next weeks expedition...Last person standing! Looking forward to it...
LLLancs LadThanx from me too. Glad to put some of the faces to the names . Apologies to the Torside Clough crew. My photos have been lost along with my old phone %uD83D%uDE15
