The weather forecast looks reasonable, and if I decide to come (which, to justify the journey, depends on whether there is anyone suitable for me to walk with on Sat/Sun/Mon) then I would be very happy to join you on the Newlands Round. I've done the section over Robinson and Hindscarth to Dale Head (from where we descended to Honister), but it was a long time ago (1995) and I wasn't navigating. I have maps, a compass and mediocre navigational ability. Scrambling wise, I'm generally OK with grade-1 routes. (I've done Blencathra (Saddleback) by going up Sharp Edge / Foule Crag and down Narrow Edge / Hall's Fell, which is quite near Keswick, so how about that perhaps, as long as it's dry and

This would be a fairly short day (albeit with quite a bit of ascent) so might suit anyone doing the 18-miler on Saturday, and if people don't fancy the scrambles or the weather is poor then there is a path to the summit on the other side of Scales Tarn and an easy descent over Scales Fell.) I wouldn't want to tackle a grade-2 scramble 😮 without a guide and a rope. I would leave home late on Thursday and travel at night to avoid traffic, so would need to know in advance where and what time to meet. I'll put a question on the invite about Sat/Sun/Mon.

Sadly, I won't be joining you. Having mentioned Sharp Edge 😮, I feel I should add that if there is anyone contemplating this who doesn't know it and is unsure of their scrambling ability, then they would be well advised to research what it is like – there is plenty on the internet. There have been a number of serious accidents, including some fatalities. It is composed of slate and is very slippery when wet.
