I have tried a few over the years, I dont really think any are better all contain the mix of genuine single people seeking their (probably too ideal) soul mate and married men looking for someone to liven their life up! (probably women too but obviously I wouldn't have come across them)
As a genuine single women who has been on her own long enough to have left most baggage in left luggage and begun to enjoy being single but would love someone to share things with ... my advice to you is be honest .... too many internet dates I've had seem to think it is ok to date then just vanish... what is wrong with a pleasant thank but no thanks? Good luck.
Hi all, Ive tryed joining lots of local clubs such as mountaineering/tennis/leisure but seems all couples. So yes ive tryed the odd int. date sites. My problem has been ive been bombarded with e-mails daily direct from the site with so called matches that are totally mismatched.!! So ive never bothered to meet up with anyone. I saw the outdoorduo ad in country walking and reg. yesterday. Like countrylass Ive been single a long time, no baggage. I am happy with my single status, however, I want to meet new friends and hopefully someone special.
Yes I've tried one or two sites over the past year with very little of the right interest. Pjb and Mb are right most sites aren't focused on the right criteria. You get mismatches and it is difficult to sustain interest. I know it's really annoying but try not to focus on finding "the one" I think more than anything we want to expand our friendship horizons and this site will do that. I've found it extremely friendly since I logged on and I hope to do my first walk in a few weeks. Relax and enjoy the moment and things will slot into place.
Same as MB it just feels good on this site because you haven't got a big sign on head saying I'm available. It's great meeting new people and if your after a relationship it can happen naturally.
I don't really use this site for dating. I think of it as a 'hub' for likeminded people. Thats what makes the site refreshingly different, and takes the pressure off, if its gonna happen it'll happen!
MB are you saying your not available .... not that I am that way inclined as you know
on 10/11/10 @ 19:17
Can anyone honestly say they are looking forward to growing older on their own, that is one of the reasons why anyone uses sites like these. The speed with which they want or need to find someone differs. The diference with this site is that fron the outset there is a common interest at some level and no pressure. Good Luck to one and all may you find good health, happiness and maybe that special person.
Not looking forward to growing old alone as in lonely but as everyone seems to say if you're on this site that seems unlikely because everyone is so friendly. You can't buy good friends and they never go away.
iv never been on a date site before, like this one as you's say there is no pressure it will happen if it ment to be. and i dont want to grow old and alone either! 😉
and like country lass says what happen to a good old thanks but no thanks
I've tried quite a few dating sites but find that where I live is a real sticking point. I am in a beautiful part of the world - West Wales - but finding a single man who's got a worldly outlook and similar interests is proving tricky because it's so rural. It's stunning walking country and I would *love* to find a compatible man to explore it all with, sigh. I'm thinking of moving closer to a city just so I can improve my chances of finding compatible souls! I've realised that even on this web site most people are miles away.
I've spent a small fortune on the bloody things and I'm still single
'I'm a virgin(untouched by any other dating site)'
davem you could be missing out again fancy not going on the lakes weekend,
on 26/02/13 @ 17:44
Only joking davem ,
it doesn't actually feel like a dating site, more a place where you can make friendships first,no demands or rush to jump into a relationship. Unless I've got it wrong and like you davem, no body fancies me either, haha
For me there is no problem of living alone as it is a state of mind and is something to be cherished in a way. Living alone is much happier that living in a wrong relationship. On joining this site i seem to have acquired a family i did not have
Interesting comments here,I've looked at many sites, and come to the conclusion there must be something wrong with me.I don't want to pretend I'm the man about town, trying to pretend I'm cool and enjoying it. As for some of the ladies I look at some 40ish attractive woman trying to emulate her teenage daughters-and looking rather silly-yes,it must be me!
From a woman's point of view the men are no different jacktherussell(in general that is)- looking at women half their age. The thing is people in general are fitter and healthy than our parents were at this age so we feel younger than our years and I think if you have the figure and it looks OK there is nothing wrong with dressing younger. But beauty is in the eye of the beholder and we're all at that stage were we feel we know what we don't want! Dating sites for women who do not care to walk into a pub/Bar on their own is the only alternative and whether male or female you know what they say "You have to kiss a lot of frogs before you find your Prince Charming/Princess
on 27/02/13 @ 7:51
There's nothing wrong with any of us we just haven't met one of the few people we click with instantly but they will be out there somewhere. Whilst taking it in your stride enjoy the company of the boys and girls on this site, they'll help you keep your sanity (or insanity!)
Well hopefully we'll all find what we're looking for. Anybody good at taking profile pictures going this wknd?i need to look good for plenty of fish dating site....there will be no mention of my secret love of hills!
Lots of people take their own pic with a phone - you'll see lots like that on fish! And if everyone who says they love walking were out at the same time, you wouldn't to be able to move.
Great thread started: my take. Well for me you have to be in it to win it . And the prize, well, if you do find it, Waw!, I'm talking about fireworks, butterflies, making you feel amazingly alive and happy. But NB,it doesn't have to be dating sites, just be out there meeting people, in it to win it .
I've met some lovely people on dating sites. Its the way to meet people these days.No different really than meeting in pubs or clubs.Just be careful and enjoy yourself.
Hi JTR I'll have my camera with me this weekend and can make you look good for a small fee !!! Mixing with others that share the same interests is a good start. Spending years wondering why you haven't been out on a good walk isn't the way forward. Had a few ups & downs, the dating agencies were the original fleecing agents !! and some of the matches unbelievable. I'd simply searched for walking buddies when I found this one and I've never known a site like it. Looking forward to meeting some of you this weekend
Tried a few.
Plenty Of Fish was by far the worst. Nobody talks.
Fitness Singles was the best but everyone is in London or America.
Eharmony was really good. You start off sending short questionnairres. That way no time or effort is wasted if the other party doesnt reply.
Outdoorduo is by far the best *idea*, but again: No one replies. Joined for a month..
Well I replied to those that messaged me, it doesn't hurt to send a polite reply if only to say you're not interested.
Eharmony - short questionnaires? it's never ending, gave up on that one. And why is North Wales Dating called that when it covers the whole of Britain?
Spiral dive, no one replies to me either. Only joking, have been on the site for a while now, but I must admit I have not had 100's of replies. Give it time.
My ex,when he wasn't my ex liked dating sites,I think they were called sluts r us.
Shame really because he used to have such a wonderful deep voice till I found out ...
God this is an old thread my last comment was on 2010 lol
I'm still on here as I love the friendships I hv made..tried pof for 4 weeks & gave up don't like cyber space it nice to meet on person

Well I for one am really glad this is not a typical dating site. I've been on here since 2010 (It think?) and am really glad I did, where else would you get such a great response to a simple question?
but it only got 9 comments when it was put on in 2012 and me and you Milvus had commented then too lol
just goes to show you how this site has grown in popularity and not for dating it seems!!!!!!!!!
Too me the O.D. site is my outdoorsey club that gets me out & about on adventures a new without having to wait around for other friends to get a free slot in their diary. I had a full calender of events before joining & now it's bursting at the seams ha! I have told many of my outdoorsey active friends, single or not, to join up & get out having new experiences & fun with some great like minded folk
I am so happy you all are having good times. We live in a fabulous world, and getting out into its manifold beauties with good friends and special others is what its all about.
I bet the dating sites haven't still got happy member's on after nearly 3 years. You can keep the dating sites. Who needs them with such fabulous friends to spend time with.
Has anyone actually found a partner who they met from this site would be nice to know if it has happened, I like a happy ending (or beginning even)
Hi all, just joined a few days ago and looking to hopefully meet that special person. I have tried other dating sites a few years ago and got nowhere at all as the comments mentioned above you get a list of non compatible dates. As this dating site keys in on the what matters the most the great outdoors and adventure you've got to have a good chance of finding someone if thats what we all enjoy the most.🙂
MadMag that made me lol! I am still looking forward to my first walk in april so haven't met any of you yet, but still feel like part of the big OD family already 🙂
I've only been on here for just under a week and also feel like part of the big OD family already. Maybe you are all special and do look forward to meeting some of you soon.🙂
Lets not advertise how special we all are guys!!!! :~😀😀😀
I'm glad the newbies are getting a good warm welcome I know it meant a lot to me when I was one 🙂
Interesting comments from everyone! I live in the far south-east and what anyone says there's not many mountain men around down here! Similarly amongst my tennis playing friends, there's no-one who'd consider camping out on the hills. So short of moving north where the action is, this site is the perfect answer for me! Mind you, I'll probably move anyway!
Two outings in two weeks with a mix of old and new members, made to feel part of the group both times and haven't laughed so much in years. Watching MD sledging on her backside was special😋😋...already looking forward to Snowdon this weekend 🙂🙂
GLad you found it so funny BG, sorry I can't make Snowdon, so wanted to practice my newfound sliding skills.
P.s hope you know the way, your map reading skills didnt look too impressive 😀😀

I agree Minty its a great site to be a part of, laughter and friendship easy to find, especially the laughter bit if your out with me, I'm free this Sunday if anyone interested, send me a message.
Aww MD it was and you were obviously enjoying the experience. At least we managed to stop !! Snowdons just a round walk so even if I get the map upside down, we just go the other way around ??!! easy.....and with Ruth there to instruct, what can go wrong....
