you could do one of the 3 peaks..ingleborough..you could walk that from the YHA & theres some lovely walking in dentdale north of ingleton..the dales way goes through Dent a beautiful cobbled village well worth a visit..

hihikerprincess   on 09/11/10 @ 14:47

Thanks HP will take a look at the walk to ingleborough.
Liz would be great if you could join us, we hope to get to Ingleton around mid day if not before

I suggest:
Climb Ingleborough from the SW direct passing Storr's Cave and White Scar.
Drop off the top towards Chapel Le Dale visiting Great Douk cave (747 770 cross the dry stone wall and go to the back of the depression) If you have a torch and fancy climbing the waterfall a short 100m foray to the light well is worthwhile.

From here the pub at 743 776 is nice but it bit pricey. Take the lane from the pub and climb Whernside then head SW back to Ingleton down the ridge line, or alternatively avoid the climb and head SW on the North side of the valley from 730 782 to 699 753. Here turn right then left through the gate into Swilla Glen (The waterfall walk). I think the collection booth is shut at this time of year.

Enjoy!

For a second day start on the track at 681 749 and follow it NW then NE into Kingsdale. Walk to The wood at 706 790 and look for the pot hole with the wooden bar cavers use to abseil off into the underground system. Head downhill to the road. If you have wellies and a torch go into Yordas Cave (by the track entrance) and wade upstream to the window for a view of an underground waterfall (about 50m). Return via Braida Garth and the footpath on the south side.

thanks for the information Steve, like the sound of the climb up the waterfall but alas my wellies wont fit in my rucksack for the underground waterfall (must get samller wellies or a bigger sack) thanks again😮)

And as for you Paddyj, dont you think I can follow a simple set of instructions without getting lost, shame on you, its a good job we are mates

ruth   on 10/11/10 @ 7:10

persil tablets I can do, Barcardi is a little more difficult and it was not her map reading that I was joking about.

Up the south west ridge of Whernside is a great walk & about 12 miles there & back, with great views. If weather iffy you could try Malham Tarn from Malham. If weather dire, try Kendal Mountain Festival!!

WBWillB   on 11/11/10 @ 17:13

Thanks WillB, is the festival on all weekend?

ruth   on 12/11/10 @ 2:15

Certainly is, 4 days from Thurs 18th. Google it & check out the website. Most of it is in the Brewery Arts Centre in the middle of Kendal (bars & food), but there are usually other venues, with some big names.
