Are we in danger of losing many Long Distance Footpaths
by landranger68Hi,some of my friends know that for the past 11 years i take on an annual long distance walk sponsored by Macmillan. This year from Boston-Rhosilli (329 miles)I was shocked to find that mile after mile had neither a walker or maintenance for a very long time. Besides the Waymarked path conditions, there were many Hedgerow covered Stiles, resulting in many long days of between 9-11 hours to Monmouth, where it was much easier walking. There was a tree blocking a Stile descending from May Hill, but did not have the strength to other than crawl under both Stile & Tree.Written to The Macmillan Way Association, who rely mainly on Volunteers & Farmers cooperation. Also the Ramblers, with photos, but no repl

Know how you feel Keith. Went for a run along part of the Ouse Valley Way a couple of weeks ago and ended up having to walk as I was fighting my way through head high cow parsley and nettles and couldn't see where I was putting my feet. Won't be doing that again before autumn. Such a shame because that section is part of a lovely walk between two pubs - 3 miles along the Ivel and 3 miles along the Great Ouse and no-one seems to be getting out and enjoying it.
TCTCHi TC,Well it is good that i am not alone, but very saddened my the whole situation.I have received a reply from The Ramblers who are taking issue with each area.Seeking Grid references to pressurise local Authorities.
lalandranger68All we can do in the mean time is report issues with GR if possible.Maybe as a we can organise events in different areas to bring paths back from oblivion🙂
