There is however a window of opportunity in September this year between 7th and 21st to go if there’s a good number of people interested🙂

RaRick and Viv's Adventures   on 10/05/13 @ 6:12

Definitely definitely very interested depending on dates - I am looking into canadian canoeing up the Great Glen next year - more details to follow! - so hopefully it might fit in nicely. what time of year are you thinking of?
Would love to do that scramble round the rocks to that loch on the bottom left (oops that'll be South West) can't remember what it's called but only accessible by boat or scramble. Love Scotland 🙂🙂🙂

on 10/05/13 @ 6:23

Can't go in September ☹☹

PDPear Drop (Sarah)   on 10/05/13 @ 6:29

Loch Coruisk is the loch with the scramble🙂
As mentioned next year would be better to plan this, haven't set a date yet as I'll see what best fits for those that want to go.
What dates would be best for you Sarah68🙂

on 10/05/13 @ 6:42

Or just what month would probably be best for now🙂

RaRick and Viv's Adventures   on 10/05/13 @ 6:46

Well the company that do the canoeing/wild camping trip run 5 or 6 trips a year but won't be publishing their dates for next year until July - so I can't plan yet, though i was hoping to do that in mid-late May - compromise between maximising daylight and minimising midges! so could either do Skye as part of the same trip the week before or after, or a separate week altogether, either would work, as long as its not the same week. Nothing else planned yet for next year so I'm quite flexible apart from the canoeing thing. I will be putting that on as an invitation too when i know the dates 🙂

PDPear Drop (Sarah)   on 10/05/13 @ 7:10

I am interested depending on dates🙂

ruth   on 10/05/13 @ 8:06

I would definitely be interested in this, next year is good for me....oh and HM I am with you on the wild camping, we could find somewhere less basic perhaps??...

KBKateB    on 10/05/13 @ 9:47

Can't do the first few days but could do the end of the first week in sept or the second week
It sounds good

ScScout   on 10/05/13 @ 12:44

I would definitely be interested in this for next year, need to watch oot for those midges...

auauldreekie   on 10/05/13 @ 13:16

I am interested too for either this year or next year.🙂

MNMadNad   on 10/05/13 @ 14:57

Good to see there's interest🙂
I'm probably looking at May/June/July time as with Sarah68's comments you can maximise daylight time during those months🙂 not sure about midges though😋
As for wild camping it was only an option as I was looking at staying at either Glen Brittle campsite and there is a YHA close by or at the campsite at Sligachan which also there is a bunkhouse and hotel nearby🙂
For now just keep a mental note and I will get an invite put on later in the year🙂

on 10/05/13 @ 16:15

Scout and MadNad, if you want to go in September this year I could look at planning something to go then🙂

on 10/05/13 @ 16:19

Beatrix, would luv to do the fairy pools, I did them quite a few years ago when there was plenty of water flowing down off the mountains🙂

RaRick and Viv's Adventures   on 10/05/13 @ 16:24

Skinny dipping?? 😋

on 10/05/13 @ 16:27

A few years ago I toured Scotland, climbed Ben Nevis & Cairngorm & windsurfed on Loch Morlich & Loch Ness. Went over to Skye for a couple of days only & was in awe of the Cuillins. Drove out to the Talisker Distillery only to discover it was a Sunday & it was closed......bugger! Will have to go again one day :~

on 10/05/13 @ 16:39

My bucket list is constantly growing, I tick one off & add three to the list. This country is so big 🙂🙂

BJBlue John   on 10/05/13 @ 17:28

Hi
I would need to know fairly swiftly if September is on as my work commitments are booked months in advance but I'm up for it. We could do the reckky for next year or alternatively I'm happy to hang fire until there is a bigger group going next year. I'm easy as they say😀

ScScout   on 10/05/13 @ 18:03

Yes please AR but would have to be next year for me (busy filming shedule this year Lol)

MoMorningdawn  on 10/05/13 @ 18:43

I spent several days on Skye but wasn't allowed out of the car for more than 5 minutes (he wasn't a walker!). Felt like the poor kid with my nose pressed up against the sweetshop window...... longing to go back and do it properly 🙂🙂

PDPear Drop (Sarah)   on 10/05/13 @ 18:47

Sarah that is so sad that you weren't able to be yourself, I hope you get the chance to do it soon & enjoy it all 🙂🙂

BJBlue John   on 10/05/13 @ 18:50

No BJ not sad, life's too short for regrets - it's just made me appreciate all the things I am doing now all the more. Onwards and upwards 🙂🙂🙂

PDPear Drop (Sarah)   on 10/05/13 @ 18:56

I suppose thats what OD is all about, being ourselves, choosing what we want to do & having friends who will do those things with us & support us too 🙂🙂

BJBlue John   on 10/05/13 @ 19:01

Abso blinking lutely! Its a whole new world just waiting to be discovered. And every 60 seconds we spend angry, sad, bitter or upset is a full minute of happiness we'll never get back. Just cos its a cheesy cliche doesn't mean its not true 😀. Adventure Rick sorry to hijack your thread with late-night sentimental meandering 😀 😀. Good night all

PDPear Drop (Sarah)   on 10/05/13 @ 19:15

I did Syke year before last, camped at Sligachan wouldn't go back to that site, very basic and run down, but the sligacan mountain was great to climb. I think we were there in July, the midgies got the better of us avoid at all costs.

BiBigfoot   on 10/05/13 @ 20:47

Doesn't matter where you go in Scotland there will be midges, all it needs is warm damp conditions and there out in there millions:~ All you can hope for is a bit of breeze to blow them away, failing that its anti-midge cream or mosquito coils to keep them away🙂

RaRick and Viv's Adventures   on 11/05/13 @ 3:45

Been regularly to Scotland for last 25 years, nearly always before end of June and never had a problem with midges at that time.

PhPhiltheetiler   on 11/05/13 @ 4:06

I shall bring my dyson and hoover them up.😀

ScScout   on 11/05/13 @ 5:52

We stayed at a place nr Oban which had a machine in the garden that sort of filtered the air & blitzed the midges 🙂🙂

BJBlue John   on 11/05/13 @ 7:12

Thiamine / Vitamin B1
>Research has shown that biting insects (such as mosquitoes, midges and flies) hate vitamin B1. People who had consumed quantities of food containing it were much less likely to be bitten. When there is too much vitamin B1 (also known as thiamine) in the body for its needs it is naturally excreted in the sweat, urine and breath; this has protective effects, keeping the midges at bay.
>Its odour and flavour are similar to those of yeast. 50-100mg a day is recommended for use as an insect repellent, this may be as taken as part of a B-complex.
>1.5mg is required to prevent signs of deficiency. Foods high in B1 include wheatgerm and bran, the outer portion (husk) of rice

on 11/05/13 @ 12:07

and grains, brewer's yeast, black molasses. Oats, spinach, nuts, sunflower seeds, avocado (although only about 0.13mg in an average avocado). Vitamin B1 is depleted in the body by the use of sugar, coffee, tannin in black tea, nicotine and alcohol.

Has anyone tried this? Apparently marmite is also good if consumed in copious quantities 🙂

PDPear Drop (Sarah)   on 11/05/13 @ 12:09

AR I might be up for a rece in Sept with a view to planning something for next year. Will check if anyone else in the office is off either of those weeks an let you know 🙂🙂

BGBustaGut (Grant)   on 11/05/13 @ 13:49

I have used Vitamin B patches (you can get them on Amazon) and they work, no need for special diets or lathering yourself in toxic repellants 🙂🙂

KBKateB    on 11/05/13 @ 14:25

I need to do Scotland sometime too! Will keep an eye on this.

MMMadMag   on 11/05/13 @ 14:44

I see that Skye1978 has just joined so you may have a good guide 🙂

BJBlue John   on 11/05/13 @ 16:51

I've now added an invite for the September trip to the Isle of Skye for those wanting to go this year🙂

Another invite will be added later on in the year for those wanting to go next year🙂

RaRick and Viv's Adventures   on 12/05/13 @ 12:30

I'm not sure yet but it's a possible.

oaoutdoor amazon   on 12/05/13 @ 13:17

I think you need to take the vit b on regular basis about 3 months prior for it to be effective

Chris50   on 12/05/13 @ 14:24

MMMadMag   on 23/05/13 @ 14:10

Thanks for sharing the link UltraDC, i've now book marked that for future reference🙂

Coasthugger your not wrong some parts of Skye do look like Middle Earth as one of the Cuillins does look like mount doom when viewed from the main land, its a very magical place when its good weather🙂

RaRick and Viv's Adventures   on 23/05/13 @ 19:12

It's great to sit up near the yop of the pass nr The Quiraing with binoculars & look for eagles 🙂

BJBlue John   on 24/05/13 @ 1:38

wawanderer47   on 05/06/13 @ 6:52
