Ski Gear?
by Carpe Diem!I'm off skiing with OD in March for the first time ever (very exciting!).
Before I go and spend £££££s on new kit, I wondered whether anyone had any ski clothes or accessories which they would consider loaning or selling to me?
Thank you - Jonathan

Peppasmum: Many thanks Tracey and for such a quick response - I'll give you a ring! J
CDCarpe Diem!Unless you wanna look fashionale on the slopes then you already posess most the gear you need, with the exception of ski goggles and helmet. 🙂 Waterproof trous over walking trousers are recommended for a beginner as you may spend some time on yer bum!😮 Some long johns may also be a good idea given the motnh you're going. Having said that you can pick up salopettes from around ?25. The only advantage being they go over the ski boot and prevent snow going down - though for a beginner I don't consider this a big issue and modern ski boots are pretty high up the leg.
on 31/10/16 @ 7:44A choice of gloves from thick to thin is good as days can be hotter than you expect, similarly with a woolly hat.
A couple of pairs of knee length ski socks are an essential. Ski gear can be picked up quite cheaply in March as the end of season is approaching, so be patient. Finally your normal waterprof jacket and thermal layers will top you off nicely. A SMALL rucksack can be a great help for butties and stripping layers off - though be careful to remove and hang on your front on chairlifts as a sack on your back can push you forwards.🤔
Pop your ski pass in a pocket not used for anything else - its too easy to pull out with gloves.
A final warning: Skiing is addictive and may lead to the emptying of your bank account. Consider cocaine as a cheaper alternative. 😀
Site Admin: Steve ...really appreciate all your kind advice - thank you 🙂🙂🙂 (already got the cocaine 😀😀😀...)

RRourkyRourky: that's a bitter blow. Actually, could you settle my balance with Al an' ah'll see yuh rite in August? Just that with retirement an' all I'm jus' 'avin to be that lil bit careful wi' the ole pennies, pal...😉
on 08/11/16 @ 18:32Rourky: actually Clive - I've just read back over what was a considered, reasonable and very helpful thread....that is until you chipped in 😀😋🙂
CDCarpe Diem!TKMAX worth a look around now for cheap gear.
JaJanhkJanhk: thanks Jan x
CDCarpe Diem!As I was reading this I was thinking go to TK Max, then saw Jan's comment - great for socks, gloves, salopettes etc...good makes at low prices
ElElliewalkerJonathan....always a pleasure to chip in, you know me. I seen some really sound advice but none it appears that comment upon your unsteady nature. To that end may i suggest some trousers with extra padding on the behind..... thatll do just the trick for those times when youre looking skyward covered in powder. Just a suggestion mate....lol
RRourkySeriously though some dry slope lessons will save you so much time learning the basics before you go and will enable you to really enjoy the experience that is skiing.
Elliewalker: thanks Helen...I'll look there!
on 16/11/16 @ 13:33AverageGuy: Kevin thanks for your really kind offer and advice...also to Heather . Yes thanks it would be great if I could arrange with you to try your salopettes. Will contact you re this after the festive season!!!..Jonathan
Rourky: Clive, coming from a renowned excess-rear-pad man such as yourself, I really appreciate your kecks advice. I'm going to get some dry-stone lessons so that I excel in the real stuff 😀😋🙂
